To the Editor,
The Times of India

Respected Sir/Madam

Subject: Devastating scenes at Deragaon, Assam caused by the Floods.

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned Authorities, Government Officials, Our fellow citizens and the entire country towards the miserable condition of lives here in Deragaon.

On June 20, 2022, a devastating flood hit the State of Assam causing a case of havoc, fright and misery all across the state and especially the areas that got affected the most. Deragaon district of Assam is one such area that was severely affected by the Floods. Heavy rains were a constant till July 1, 2022, which caused  Landslides, Life-shattering Floods. In most cases though, as the incessant Rains which is the root cause of the floods, slow down or stop do stop the further worsening of the situation and condition. Sadly, The same can’t be said for most of the Districts in Assam and especially Deragaon.

Over 9.68 lakh people are affected across the state with a death toll touching 196. Out of these 196 deaths, 72 were from Deragaon alone. With over crores of property destroyed, farms spoilt and several missing, the ones Alive are numb and in utter grim. No proper food, sanitation and with their sources of livelihood torn apart by the natural calamity seemed to have impacted the population mentally. Few of them even lost their loved ones and saw their dreams being washed away by the gruesome forces of nature.

Though the Government has provided a lot of aid to the deceased and the ones in need, the district still needs a massive amount of support to stand back on its feet.

The “Times of India” has been nothing but a pioneer when it came to highlighting the pain of the ones in need and with readers all across the country, I’m nothing but assured that through your Newspaper, the entire country will come together to help the flood torn State and The District of Deragaon.

Respectfully yours,

Varun.
